Meet the Riverside Team Behind Sutton ADU Riverside
When you call Sutton ADU Riverside, you’re not getting a rotating cast of subcontractors you’ll never see again. You get a small, consistent crew that has built together across Riverside’s neighborhoods, from the citrus-belt lots in Arlington Heights to the hillside parcels in Canyon Crest. Miles Hartwell, the owner, has kept the team deliberately compact. Every person below is background-checked, identity-verified, and photo-badged through the Threshold Standard, and their name and photo are sent to you before they ever set foot on your property.
We’re not a franchise sales office. We’re a build team that happens to specialize in one thing: adding a second home to land you already own.
Our People

Miles Hartwell, Owner
Miles founded Sutton ADU Riverside in 2006, and he still walks every job site before the first stake goes in the ground. His background is in residential framing and general contracting, but what he actually does most days is read plans, redline change orders, and tell homeowners when a number on a bid is higher than it needs to be. He’d rather lose a little margin than watch someone overpay for a roofline they don’t need.
Miles carries the 365-Day Done Right Promise personally. If a finished ADU has a workmanship defect within a full calendar year, he’s the one who makes the call to send the crew back, no haggling. He’s also fluent in Riverside’s permit process, which he’ll describe as “slow until it isn’t, so file early and pour when the weather lets you.” He lives in the city and has zero interest in building anywhere else.
Daniel R., Lead Technician
Daniel has spent eleven years in residential construction, seven of them focused exclusively on accessory dwelling units and room additions. He’s the person who walks your lot with a measuring wheel, checks the actual slope (not what the parcel map says), and figures out where the trenching will go without taking out your avocado tree.
Daniel holds current certifications for James Hardie cladding installation and has completed factory training with Abodu and Cover for their panelized systems. His specialty is site prep for prefab ADUs, where foundation tolerance is measured in fractions of an inch. On weekends he restores a 1968 Ford F-250, which means he genuinely understands the difference between “good enough” and “done correctly.”
Luis M., Senior Installer
Luis has been with Sutton ADU Riverside for eight years, longer than anyone on the crew besides Miles. He runs the framing and finish work on most of our stick-built projects. If you visit a Riverside ADU we completed between 2020 and now, there’s a good chance Luis set the wall plates and hung the exterior cladding himself.
He’s factory-certified with Dvele and Plant Prefab for modular set-and-finish work, and he handles the exacting interior trim details that make a small dwelling feel like a real home rather than a converted shed. Luis keeps a small notebook in his vest with measurements from every job; he says it’s faster than a phone, and he’s right about that.
Isabel C., Service Coordinator
Isabel is the first voice you hear when you call (831) 217-6083. She’s been with the company for four years and knows every project by address, not job number. When you call to ask where your permit stands or why the concrete truck is scheduled for 6:30 a.m., Isabel already has the answer or knows exactly who to wake up to get it.
She coordinates inspections, material deliveries, and the Threshold Verified check-in process for every technician before they arrive at your door. Isabel also handles the free second visit scheduling under the 365-Day Done Right Promise. “If the homeowner remembers to call, they’ve already waited longer than they should,” she says, and she books those visits within the week.
Marcus T., Apprentice
Marcus joined the crew two years ago through a Riverside community college construction technology program. He works under Daniel and Luis on foundation forms, moisture barriers, and the unglamorous work that keeps an ADU dry for decades.
He’s currently completing his James Hardie installation certification and splits his week between the field and blueprint reading with Miles. Marcus is proof that the crew standard applies to everyone: he’s background-checked, identity-verified, uniformed, and photo-badged before he’s ever on your property. He also brews a very strong cold brew that the crew has politely stopped asking him to change.
One Standard, Every Job
The Threshold Standard isn’t a motivational poster. It’s a written commitment that follows every project from the first phone call to the final walkthrough. Each of us works under the same rules, whether the job is a Tuff Shed conversion in La Sierra or a two-bedroom Dvele modular in Mission Grove. You receive a written price before any work starts. The quote doesn’t drift, and scope changes are discussed in writing, not slid onto an invoice. Your technician’s name and photo arrive before they do, and they show a photo ID at your door. And when the project is finished, the 365-Day Done Right Promise covers workmanship for one full calendar year. If something isn’t right, we return and make it right. That second visit is free, every time.
Miles built the Riverside team one person at a time, and he’d tell you the standard only matters if the people standing behind it actually work here. They do.
